The report prepared by AmerenIP said coal tar, known carcinogen benzene and other pollutants have been found at the site and extend into the soil and water beyond its 3.5 acres, the Champaign (Ill.) News-Gazette reported Sunday.
But the report claimed the public isn't threatened by the contamination, the newspaper said.
The company said, however, more soil and water tests are needed since some data are several years old.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has 60 days to respond to the report.
